W
hat is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment that looks at the interrelationship of the body's structures and how they can be improved to obtain pain relief and better health.
Osteopathic medicine is unique.

What do osteopaths treat?

  • Backache, this affects 4 out of 5 people sometime in their lives. It is often caused by over straining the muscles and joints, either through trauma or altered postural mechanics.
  • Headaches, commonly caused by referred pain from tension around the neck.
  • Joint and muscle strain from the hips, knees, ankles, wrists, elbows and shoulders, even the ribs.
  • Sciatica, caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve. This causes pain down the leg. It is often caused by a protruding intervertebral disc.
  • Arthritis. Osteoarthritis is a result of the wear and tear of the joint surfaces. Most commonly in the hip and knee, ostepaths can help the muscles to adapt to their new role thereby reducing pain.
  • Sports injuries osteopaths are experienced in treating injuries from all types of sport.
  • Pregnancy. During pregnancy the body has to under go a number of mechanical as well as hormonal changes. The mechanical changes in the spine in adapting to the increase in abdominal size and the increase in the breast tissue puts an abnormal strain on the ribs, diaphragm, muscles and joints. By using gentle stretching and articulation the ostepath can allow the mechanics to alter and afford symptomatic relief.
  • Many other conditions, gynaecological, respiratory, digestive and vertigo may often be helped by osteopathic treatment.

At the Mason Ostepathic Clinic we specialise in the treatment of infants and children.
The new born, infants and children.
The changes that can occurduring the pregnancy and the birth process can often affect the child. If forceps or a ventoux has been used this can cause stress within the skull often resulting in the baby being irritable, not sleeping, or fractious. If the head was engaged sometime before the birth this can cause irritability.
Colic is another common problem that osteopaths have to deal with. As the child gets older glue ear and hearing loss may be a problem.
Hyperactive children aslo benefit from ostepathy. Normalising the structure of the new born head ranks among the most valuable and significant proceedures inpreventive medcine today.
It's potential for good far exceeds what may be accomplished later.
