What
is Podiatry?
Podiatry is the internationally recognised term for medical expertise
in the lower limb, and has evolved from Chiropody (Chiro – of the
hands; Pody – of the feet), care for the hands and feet, usually
by a ships Doctor or similar who would remove hard skin and callus from
the palms and feet of sailors and rope-makers.
To use the terms Chiropodist
or Podiatrist, practitioners are now required to be registered with the
Health Professions Council, and anyone wishing to become a Chiropodist
and Podiatrist must obtain a Batchelor of Science (BSc) degree in Podiatry. |
